Typical Veronese dishes are "bollito con la peperata" (boiled meat with peppery cheese sauce), riso alla pilota

"risotto alla pilota" (risotto with pork), "gnocchi al burro" (potato dumplings with butter), "paparele con i piselli o fagioli" (tagliatelle with peas and beans), "bigoli con le sardine" (spaghetti with sardines), "zuppa scaligera"(a richer version of the "sopa coada" soup with turkey, chicken and white wine) and "pastinada de caval" (horse meat stew – difficult to find nowadays).


Pandoro is the sweet par excellence, less well known are the "natalini" and the Easter "brassadella".
The most noteworthy wines are Valpolicella, Valpantena, Bardolino, Amarone and Soave, with Recioto as a desert wine.
